Sharing my cheese at the market

Hi everyone! I’ve been bringing my homemade cheese to the farmers’ market, and it’s been such a fun way to meet neighbors.

The tough parts are keeping safety simple, finding packaging that survives the summer heat, and setting a price that feels fair. I started this to share the love of local food, and it’s been really rewarding. Just curious how others handle these little bumps when taking cheese out of the kitchen. Thanks!

Sounds like you’re off to a great start, @b3rries9! One trick that helped me was keeping a small insulated tote under the table so finished packages stay cool even when the day heats up without turning your setup into a full-blown cold room. For pricing, a quick way to sanity‑check your numbers is to track one full batch from milk to market and divide total cost by yield so you’re not guessing in the dark.

Do you already have a favorite packaging style that’s holding up well or are you still experimenting?

Packaging is so tricky because cheese needs to breathe, but summer humidity wants to turn everything into a science project!
if you aren't already, look into specialty cheese paper, like Formaticum, or even simple parchment paper inside a loosely zipped bag
it’s much better than plastic wrap, which suffocates the cheese and causes that slimy texture in the heat
